Assemble a Kitchen Basket Strainer

Whether replacing an old piece or installing a new sink, assembling a kitchen basket strainer correctly prevents leaks around the sink drain hole. Basket strainers are the connection between your sink drain pipes and the sink. They have two seals, one at the top and one at the bottom, that prevent water from leaking when the sink is full or when draining water from the sink. Most sinks have a distinct recess around the circumference of the sink hole where the kitchen basket strainer sits when installing. Assembling a kitchen basket strainer is a matter of installing the washers in the appropriate order. You can look for baskets strainers from Wuzhou Kingda, we could provide the best quality for you.

Instructions

1.Clean the drain hole of the sink. Scrape any residual plumber's putty away with a putty knife if replacing a kitchen basket strainer. Clean the area around the hole with a clean cloth.

2.Roll a 1/2-inch ball of plumber's putty between your hands to form a rope. Place the rope of plumber's putty around the outside circumference of the sink hole. There is a small recess around the sink hole for the plumber's putty. This forms a seal between the basket strainer flange and the sink.

3.Insert the kitchen basket strainer into the sink hole and press down until the bottom of the basket flange seats over the recess area. Excess plumber's putty will squeeze out as you press the strainer down. Ask a helper to hold the strainer as you go below the sink to finish assembling the strainer to the sink.

4.Go under the sink with the strainer rubber washer, cardboard washer and retaining nut. Place the rubber washer around the threads of the basket strainer. Push the washer up until it meets the bottom of the sink. The rubber washer provides another seal.

5.Slide the cardboard washer over the kitchen basket strainer threads and slide it up to the rubber washer. The cardboard washer acts as a buffer between the metal retaining nut and the rubber washer. This helps protect the rubber washer from tears when installing the retaining nut.

6.Thread the retaining nut over the threads of the basket strainer until the nut is hand tight. Tighten the nut completely with a pipe wrench. Do not over-tighten. The edge of the rubber washer should not bend down. As you tighten the retaining nut, more plumber's putty will seep past the edges of the strainer inside the sink.

7.Score along the edge of the strainer basket flange and sink inside the sink with a utility knife. Peel the excess plumber's putty away from the sink flange. Finish assembling the drain pipes and attach them to the bottom of the sink strainer basket.
