Metal baskets are wonderful for decorating. They come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. You can get them in different materials and colors. They can be useful or just pretty. Buy your metal baskets. The best place to shop for baskets are yard sales. Look for old flower arrangements in baskets that people are selling for a quarter. Buy it and toss the flowers. You can also buy baskets at any craft or hobby store. Even department stores are selling baskets now.

Decorate your metal baskets. You can use paint for your wicker baskets to make them match your decor. Use a can spray paint that is approved for wicker. This really makes old baskets look nice. If you are real artistic you can even paint your own picture on them. Metal baskets can be painted too. Use a metal spray paint, like Rust-o-leum. If you have something made out of vines and bark, you can even put a coat of varnish on them. Depending on your decor, some baskets look best older and worn, like if you have a room full of antiques. For the really crafty, you can make baskets out of material and sew them together.

Fill your basket with flowers. You can use silk flowers or real flowers in baskets. To make a silk flower arrangement, put a piece of Styrofoam in the bottom of the basket and push your flowers down into the foam. Use an ivy to hang over the edge and fill in between the flowers. Real flowers or plants is a nice touch too. Set in a flower pot to fit the size of the basket and plant your flowers right in the pot. Some baskets come with a plastic liner to prevent water from leaking out.

Keep your collections in a basket. Let's say you collect sea shells or pine cones. Take your hot glue and glue on a few shells or cut your pine cones in half and glue the flat edge to the outside of the basket. Then fill it up with the collection. This works great for kids rooms too with all their little things such as marbles and buttons.

Organize with your baskets. Making your decorations useful is a rewarding goal, especially if you're short on space. Take a big, flat or open basket, like they use for funeral flowers, and put your magazines in it next to your couch. Use a nice tall one in your kitchen to hold your utencils. Decorated square baskets on a shelf in the kitchen in stead of junk drawers. Pretty round baskets on your dining room table with fake fruit or even to hold the salt, pepper an napkins. Decorate and rectangle basket and put it on the back of your toilet to hold the paper. Be creative, you can do almost anything with baskets.

Decorate for Christmas or other holidays. Metal baskets are great Christmas decorations. You can put all those old tree balls that don't hang anymore in a basket and tie a big red ribbon on it. Metal baskets are also good for candles. Put your Christmas candles in, silk Christmas flowers to fill in and a bow on the handle. Take another and fill it with candy canes. Go to the dollar store and get a Christmas hand towel. Drape it over a medium size basket and fill it with Christmas cookies. You can use this with any holiday, just stick with the theme.
