Get the Freezer Basket Out

A spill in the freezer basket of your refrigerator causes foul odors to build up over time, but the appliance's freezer basket is removable through minor disassembly. The freezer basket contains a storage bin that is removable from the refrigerator, and also includes a top, middle and bottom drawer for multiple storage compartments. Pull the handle on the freezer basket to open it, and carefully remove the ice compartment and middle drawer from the main drawer.

Insert the blade end of the screwdriver into the left side rail to detach the Durabase compartment.

Push the tab located on the right side of the freezer drawer's rail to completely detach the drawer.

Remove the screw on both sides of the drawer's rails with the flathead screwdriver, and pull off the front of the drawer using two or more hands.

Push the left and right rails into the empty drawer space to prevent accidentally tripping over them while cleaning out the drawer.

Reverse the steps to re-assemble the freezer section.
