How to Make a Perforated Solid Brass Box

Perforated Box is a golden-colored alloy of copper and zinc, widely used by humanity since prehistory. Ancient Greek and Roman beauties used polished brass as mirrors.

But the metal is an attractive material in its own right, and is employed at present in the construction of musical instruments, doorknobs, zippers and steam punk paraphernalia of all varieties. Perforated Box is especially well suited for making small accessories, such as a small box in which to store things.

Design your perforated box, determining the dimensions of all four sides and the bottom. If you want a cover for it, decide how you want it to fit over the top, and whether you want it to be affixed with a hinge.

Sandwich your perforated solid brass plates or sheeting between two wooden boards. This will protect the perforated solid brass during the cutting process, and ensure a clean edge. Draw your design on the uppermost board, and carefully cut through all three layers with your saw.

Sand the surface of the perforated solid brass clean with an emery cloth. The metal needs to be perfectly clean before beginning soldering.

Brush solder flux along the joint between two pieces you wish to connect. This will guide the solder as it melts.

Heat the perforated solid brass around the joint with the torch. Apply the solder into the joint.WUZHOU KINGDA waits for your order.

Repeat these steps on the remaining joints until your box is complete. Connect the cover to the box by soldering a hinge between them, if so desired.

Smooth the soldered connections with a zirconium disc on a buffing wheel, to make the edges of your box more attractive. Follow this with a scour pad, rubbed either with the wheel or by hand, to even out any nicks caused by the harsher zirconium disc.
