Instructions

1

Dig the start of the trench of the perforated pipe. In needs to be at least 6 inches wide, although 12 inches will give you more working space. At the start the trench should be 14 inches deep. This equals 6 inches for the grass and soil, 4 inches for the gravel and 4 inches for the pipe.

2

Dig a slope downward as you work away from the beginning point of the trench. The slope needs to be one-quarter of an inch for every 4 feet. Place a level on a flat surface and raise one side one-quarter inch. Mark the glass tube where the bubble is. The level can now be a guide to show you if the slope is dropping one-quarter inch. Use a shovel to dig the trench to its ending location. If digging through grass, scape off the sod and set it aside to be put back when you are done.

3

Fill the trench with 2 inches of gravel.

4

Wrap the pipe in the fabric and place it in the trench with the perforated holes facing down.

5

Fill over top and on the sides of the trench. You need 2 inches on the top.

6

Finish filling in the hole with soil and the grass or ground cover that you removed when you dug the trench.
